AR695 - .577/450 Martini-Henry Mkll Volunteer pattern

Full length Martini-Henry rifle of  military specification but for private purchase or by Volunteer. A Mark ll Martini-Henry, made for British and Empire trade; one of those sold to South Africa – Cape Colony or the Boer republics (many were privately purchased, despite British attempts to limit arms sales except via Government agency), many would be bought by members of the burgeoning Volunteer movement in Britain (not Ireland). No other identifiable markings. Very well cleaned in the past, no major marks to the wood although a few patches of staining, and a dent under the forend. Braze mark to the receiver by the breechblock hinge pin, clear and defined rifling; bayonet boss on barrel band.  Missing clearing rod
