AS8    16 bore percussion shotgun in shooting condition.
16b Austin single barrel percussion shotgun with 44” octagonal to round barrel with decorative band and gold coloured inlays. Engraved breech, lock and hammer. Back action lock signed "Austin", the half length maple stock with steel furniture. My suspicion is that this is an older barrel – it has been suggested as quite possibly Spanish made into “modern technology” of the mid-19th century. It could be one of the Sussex Austins or M Austin of Colchester, all working over the correct mid-century period. NVN but numbered under the barrel.  Old cleaned barrel but excellent shooting bore, clean and bright, current British 2011 proof under the hook breech barrel and modern nipple: 14¼“ pull, weigh 7lb. Quite ready for a round of clays or the new season!
