AP138 - Starr Model 1858 percussion revolver

.44 six shot percussion Starr Model 1858 Army revolver. Serial No.: 1947. A US Civil War revolver with very low serial number, likely made in 1859/1860 – first year of production: production lasted only a couple of years. Of the only 23,000 made, the majority were military for the US Federal Army and Navy; this example is not martially marked and is unusual in this respect: I have had a number of martially marked examples but this is the first “civilian” version I have come across. Nevertheless, one can imagine this being privately purchased and carried throughout the Civil War engagements. The mechanism is technically interesting, being trigger cocking and pull-through for rapid fire but with options for delicate, aimed release. Mechanically sound and GWO, which is not always the case with this quite complex and finicky mechanism. It has the round 6” sighted barrel, plain cylinder, and the frame is stamped with the manufacturers details and patent date left and right of the frame. It has been cleaned bright at some time in the past; the grips are slightly rounded around the base for easier grip and grasping by a long distant past owner. All visible serial numbers matching.
