AR722 - 1867 Swedish Remington Rolling Block. No.: 13980. Made by the Carl Gustafs factory in 1874 and originally in the rimfire cartridge but later converted to Centre-Fire in 12.17mmx44 cartridge. Being Carl Gustafs made, it has the “Remington button” rather than locking screws, which is correct for this manufacturer only, although it does not occur on all Carl Gustafs made rolling blocks; it has the correct and original concave base breechblock and side extractor. The rear-sights have been through the 1879 conversion to metric. The centre-fire conversion was a civilian adaption to enable them to re-load cartridges, since the military retained rimfire, having invested heavily in ex US Ordnance machinery to manufacture rimfire cartridges. The conversion is clear in the face of the breechblock. Markings are clear and crisp, the Crown over C (for Carl Gustafs factory) on the barrel, serial number on barrel and repeated immediately below, on the stock, inspector marks and serial number repeated on the action with Crown C and date (1874) on the right-hand side of the action. Colour and condition are good with a bright shiny bore and crisp rifling.
