AR749 .577 Mk ll** Snider three band rifle
Approved in May 1867, the Mkll** was the “New Technology” on from the muzzle loading percussion Enfield rifle. The 32inch barrel has the standard three groove rifling, folding ladder sight; the lock stamped with a crown and VR, Tower 1868; correct cupped hammer. The MkIl** breech block is stamped 'Sniders Patent' so this is a Volunteer use rifle. The lockplate is very clean and clear, barrel and barrel bands have old salt and pepper; decent bore. This example comes with a reproduction leather sling.
