AR751 - Calisher & Terry Model 1856: New South Wales Police issue.
A 30 bore Calisher & Terry Model 1856 S/No.: 6180, New South Wales police issue and marked NSW to trigger guard; Police unit markings to butt: A/P-519. All matching visible numbers. It is marked TERRYS PATENT and 30 BORE to top of receiver with a double lined lockplate marked CALISHER & TERRY. The Calisher & Terry underwent British military trials in 1858 and was issued for troop trials 1861. The newly established New South Wales Police in colonial Australia had an initial contract in 1859, with further orders and deliveries totalling approximately only 1100 carbines; the first of the main contracts was in 1861. The final (second main contract for 350 to replace supplies to New Zealand) in 1863. It has the issue pattern of a single top barrel band and cross pin (as per British military cavalry issue) with correct clearing rod, 2nd pattern rear-sight (missing slider), bottom hinged butt trap and a later replaced lower sling swivel of incorrect type (3-band or Snider waisted pattern?). It retains a decent bore with minor usage marks to stock and indications of older cleaning in some areas, although with a decent patina overall and not scratched or scuffed.
