18mm Swiss 1842/59 percusssion musket no.: 9242 Kessler 

Rifled percussion musket (Sapper, Pontonier und Parkartillerieflinte). Originally made as smoothbore by Francotte in Liege (as were many Swiss issue muskets), marked on lock-plate and AF Crown marks. Upgraded to rifled with the 1859 model programme: 4 groove rifling 18mm bore (large hollow base Minie style bullet).Issued to the Canton of Vaud and marked to the top of the barrel. Metalwork cleaned overall but quite good condition; brass barrel-bands and double-band nose-cap. Wood generally good condition with old worm holes (filled); butt repaired quite expertly. Fixed rearsight and adjustable rear-sight. Comes with triangular socket bayonet.
