17.6mm Swiss Model 1817/42 Percussion musket. One of the 1842 flint to percussion conversion programme of what was essentially an 1817 (French style) pattern flint musket. Marked: Ribent (converter?) with other inspection and Cantonal marks to breech, also M or HIR over 5Q to butt – a Unit marking? Notch rear-sight to tang, cheekpiece, double band nose-cap, bayonet stud below barrel. Being a conversion from flint, it has the earlier, more elegant lock-plate style than the purpose built 1842 models. Old rust staining to metalwork, but no live rust or pitting. Old armourer repairs to fore-end, missing nose-cap retaining spring
